October 10th: Okonomiyaki Day!
Japan is famous for having special “food days” celebrating everything from sushi to curry. And yes—there’s even a day for Okonomiyaki!
Why October 10th?
October 10th (10/10) is officially Okonomiyaki Day in Japan, established by Otafuku’s headquarters in 2006.
The date was chosen because the sizzling sound of okonomiyaki cooking—“juu-juu”—resembles the numbers 10-10 in Japanese.
There’s also a fun visual reason: When you write “10 10,” the two zeros can look like people sitting side by side around a griddle, sharing food and laughter.
For these two reasons, October 10th became the perfect day to celebrate Okonomiyaki!
How to Celebrate Okonomiyaki Day
Okonomiyaki has always been about togetherness.
Families and friends gather around a griddle to cook, flip, and enjoy the savory pancakes while chatting and laughing. It’s not just about eating—it’s about the joy of making it together and sharing the moment.
