‘Okonomi’ means ‘how you like’ or ‘what you like’. So in the dish called ‘Okonomiyaki’, people prepare it how they like it, leaving off some toppings or adding different ones. Soeven though we’ll go over some common toppings in this article, feel free to get creative and add the toppings that you like!

1. Okonomi Sauce – No Okonomiyaki is complete without Otafuku’s signature Okonomi Sauce!

2. Mayonnaise – Okonomiyaki is often served with a generous drizzle of mayonnaise on top. Most use Kewpie Mayonnaise, which is Japanese Mayonnaise with a distinct richness & tang.

3. Katsuobushi / Bonito Flakes – Katsuobushi is very thin shavings of smoked Skipjack Tuna. It provides a smoky & umami-rich seafood flavor, while making the dish visually appealing. When you put Katsuobushi on hot food, the thin shavings move around from the heat, creating a cool visual effect!
